I've made myself a November resolution.
Say NO to everything!
Ok, so not everything. :)
But it is a word I need to practice using more often.
There is just too much going on and it's more than I can handle currently.
I'm exhausted and emotionally/spiritually/physically drained.
I knew I would get to this point when I went back to work at the beginning of August.
I have this ugly tendency to dive in, over extend, get overwhelmed, burn out, step back, accept grace and start all over again.
So lame. One day I pray that I can learn to find balance instead of this crazy cycle.
The first step I'm taking is a detox month.
My goal is to say no to:
- sugar
- eating out
- internet one entire day each week
- sleep deprivation
- extra social activities**
**meaning I'm not becoming a hermit, but I'll be evaluating case-by-case and only saying yes when it's life-giving and within balance. I'm in desperate need of as much quality family time as I can manage to find.
Ok, I'm excited.
I received some really great advice recently that your priorities are made quite clear by how you spend your time.
So priorities here I come!
These are great goals! I used to be terrible at saying no, but have made some changes lately and it's still hard to say no to good things. But I have to trust that by choosing life giving things first, we're making our families a priority.
ReplyDeleteI love this! I may have to steal some of these ideas. I especially like the one day a week without internet. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome! I'm the worst at saying no!
ReplyDeleteooo I 2nd the need for one day a week with no internet! I'm not there yet but think I would come back so refreshed. I need to make it happen!
ReplyDeletei like this.
ReplyDeletei've been trying to be better about saying no when people ask me to do things.
and not just cause i don't want to - but because my plate is full and then i resent whatever that thing is!
also, i need to say NO more to sweets and treats more.
starting that ASAP as well.
No internet one day a week?!?!?! ARE YOU CRAZY!!!!
ReplyDeleteJust kidding. You are more brave than I, my friend.
Good for you!
Great commitment ash!
ReplyDeleteGreat goals for NOvember! My motto is to Just Say No. Way (waaaaayyyyy) back I used to take on too much, I have since learned the beauty of saying No and doing what I want. Yes, there are exceptions ... but saying no gets easier and easier. I'm going on almost 15 years of Just Saying NO! :)
